Baaaang - it does not get any better than this! What a fantastic time we had on this tiny island called Pom Pom Island in Sabah. It is a 45 min. boat ride away from Semporna close to the Philipines.
After an 8 hour bus ride we arrived in the dirty and chaotic town of Semporna. Normally we could have enjoyed this bus trip which was calm and comfortable. For whatever reason, a lot of locals felt sick and were vomiting all way. Thanks they distribute sickness bags on the buses in Sabah. We found quite a nice, cheap and funny place to stay. The Dragon Inn is built on stilt over the water. It is one of the top 10 floating hotels of the world. It is basic but very clean and has spacious rooms with outdoor bathroom. We stayed a night there and then went by boat to our paradies: Pom Pom Island. For 4 days/3 nights we treated us nicely with some real luxury. But, on whatever island you go in Sipadan, they are all very expensive. So we took the best one for us. And it was even better than this. We could watch turtles right from the jetty. The sand was white - everything looked like in the brochures you see from dreamy islands. I went diving for 1 day and saw a turtle of more than 100 years of age. The rest of the time we enjoyed with snorkelling and turtle watching and, of course, eating seafood. For new years eve there was a fun party in the resort which we fully enjoyed and even took a midnight bath in the sea with the turtles. But finally, it was time to say goodbye. Our budget was fully spent. After a 2,5 hours flight we landed in the middle of the Kuala Lumpur nightlife. Well, travelling can sometimes be really cruel.... Thanks a lot to Phillippe, Chiemi, Sally, Mario and the whole team for the unforgettable time we had on Pom Pom.
